Autoaddress 2.0 exceeds 100k daily address transactions

Posted by Pat Donnelly | Feb 08, 2017

In recent weeks our real-time address entry solution Autoaddress 2.0 has surpassed 100,000 address transactions per day.  While our API may be called multiple times per address, an address transaction equates to each individual address that has been entered via our customers' websites, apps, CRM, etc. Total API calls (excluding autocomplete keystrokes) average over 2.5 million per week.

Usage figures from our Account Centre for Monday, February 6th show the typical usage pattern per day which peaked at 14,000 addresses per hour around 3 p.m.

Who is using Autoaddress 2.0 and Eircode?

Our top 5 users by industry are as follows:
  1. Courier
  2. Insurance
  3. Telecommunications
  4. Government
  5. E-commerce
Unsurprising our top usage is by our Courier customers who verify, sort and deliver tens of thousands of parcels every day with Eircode.  Eircode has dramatically reduced their manual sortation requirements, improved the efficiency of their logistics planning and allowed timely delivery to previously difficult to find rural addresses.
Our E-commerce customers are benefiting from reduced address entry time, especially on mobile, which reduces cart abandonment, and we expect usage in this segment to grow dramatically.

Where are Eircodes being used?

In the Real Time section of our Account Centre we can see anonymised usage in real-time of our API, and customers who log in to our Account Centre can see their real-time usage of their production licence keys.

If we filter the data by addresses where an Eircode is entered (rather than just the address) we see a bias towards Eircode adoption in rural addresses versus urban addresses.  There is currently a rural/urban divide in the use of and appreciation for the benefits of Eircode to the householder.  The top quoted benefit, especially since the inclusion of Eircodes in Google Maps (including offline mode), is removing the requirement for rural householders to provide delivery or service personnel detailed directions that can be difficult to follow.  Other quoted benefits include checking for broadband coverage without requiring a site survey, and insurance quotes that can include flood cover for a household that would previously have been excluded.  Eircodes have revolutionised the ability of the National Ambulance Service and First Responders to quickly and accurately locate rural addresses as demonstrated in a recent episode of the TV3 series Paramedics.

What next?

We have key customers in the Financial and Courier/Logistics industries about to go live that will significantly increase usage, and we are delighted to be gaining customers across a broad range of industries.  Eircode data was first made available just 18 months ago on 6th August 2015. Attaining this level of usage so quickly gives us great encouragement for accelerated adoption in the year ahead, with increased appreciation by the public of the benefits of Eircode and a closing of the gap between urban/rural Eircode usage.
